Some days I want a clean, soft look… and other days I want a fun makeup look :P that makes me giggle the second I see it in the mirror. If you’ve been saving random clips, screenshots, and “I’ll try this someday” ideas, this is your sign to actually do it. I’m talking color, shapes, tiny details, dramatic liner, and those “wait… that’s actually cute” moments.

I get most of my ideas the same way: inspired by some tiktoks and things I saw (plus whatever my brain decides at 1 a.m.). And honestly? That’s the best part. Fun makeup doesn’t need a reason. It can be for a photo, a night out, a themed hang, or just because you want to create create create and feel like a main character for an hour. 💋

Before you start: a quick “fun makeup routine” setup

When I’m doing creative makeup, I treat it like a mini art session. The goal is to make it easier to experiment without getting frustrated halfway through.

1) Base that can handle edits
I keep my base simple and comfortable. Fun looks usually need a little wiping and re-drawing (especially liner), so a base that won’t melt or patch too easily is key. If you know you’ll be cleaning up edges, keep complexion products thin around the outer eye area.

2) Tape, cotton swabs, and a small brush
This is the trio that saves everything. Tape helps with sharp shadow wings, cotton swabs fix tiny mistakes, and a small brush is perfect for graphic shapes and little details.

3) Pick a “main character” feature
If everything is bold, nothing stands out. I choose one hero: graphic eyeliner, bright shadow, clown cheeks, or a color-blocked lid. Then I let the rest support it.

Idea 1: Clown-inspired blush (cute, not scary)

This is one of my favorite “fun clown makeup I did :3” vibes because it can be sweet, wearable, and still super playful. The trick is keeping the shapes soft and intentional.

How I do it

Step 1: Start with a fresh base and lightly set the cheeks so the color blends smoothly.
Step 2: Place blush higher than usual—think upper cheek, closer to under-eye (but not right on the lash line).
Step 3: Add a little blush across the bridge of the nose for that doll-like, “out in the cold” effect.
Step 4: If you want the clown vibe, add two small circles (or soft ovals) on the apples of the cheeks. Blend the edges so it looks intentional, not stamped.
Step 5: Keep lips simple: a blurred lip stain look or a soft gloss moment. Let the cheeks be the star.

Extra fun option: Add tiny freckles (realistic or exaggerated). If you’re nervous, start with just a few and build up. It’s way easier to add than to remove.

Idea 2: Graphic eyeliner shapes (the easiest “wow”)

Graphic liner is the fastest way to turn “regular makeup” into “creative makeup inspo” energy. And you don’t need to be a pro—just plan the shape first.

My method (so it doesn’t get messy)

Step 1: Sketch the shape with a light shadow first. A tiny angled brush helps a lot.
Step 2: Trace over it with liner once you like the placement.
Step 3: Clean the edges with a little concealer on a flat brush.
Step 4: Balance the look: if the liner is bold, keep the lid mostly bare or add a soft wash of color.

Floating crease line: A line above the crease that doesn’t touch the lash line. It looks editorial but still cute.
Double wing: A classic wing plus a second thin wing above it (or below it).
Inner corner spike: A tiny sharp point at the inner corner for that “animated eye” vibe.

Idea 3: Bright shadow eye, step-by-step (for when you want color)

If you’ve been craving those fun colors and bright colors looks, this is the easiest way to get there without overthinking. I love a simple “two-color story” because it looks intentional even if you’re experimenting.

Step-by-step bright shadow eye

Step 1: Prime the lid (or use a thin layer of concealer) and set lightly so blending is smooth.
Step 2: Choose two shades: one for the lid, one for the outer corner/crease. Keep them in the same vibe (both warm, both cool, or both neon).
Step 3: Pack the lid shade first. Pressing color on gives more payoff than swiping.
Step 4: Add the deeper/brighter shade to the outer corner and blend inward gently. Small circles, light pressure.
Step 5: Use a clean fluffy brush to soften the edge. This is the difference between “messy” and “blended on purpose.”
Step 6: Pop a highlight shade (or a lighter version of your lid color) on the inner corner.
Step 7: Finish with liner or mascara depending on the mood. Sometimes I skip liner completely so the color stays the focus.

Little tip that changes everything: If the look feels “too much,” don’t remove it—just add a soft neutral transition shade around the edges to make it look more wearable.

I love taking a random trend format and translating it into makeup. Like, if a trend is about contrast, I’ll do contrast eyes. If it’s about “two sides,” I’ll do mismatched liner. If it’s about “ranking,” I’ll do stacked colors. It’s basically mood-board makeup, and it always looks cooler because it’s personal.

Place them under the outer corner or along the cheekbone. Keep them small and spaced out so it looks delicate.

A bright shade smudged just on the lower lash line instantly makes the whole look feel creative, even if the lid is neutral.

Glossy eyelid effect (carefully)
A tiny bit of clear shine on the center of the lid can look editorial. I keep it minimal so it doesn’t crease everywhere.

Unexpected blush placement
Try blush slightly higher and outward toward the temples, or a soft “C” shape around the outer eye. It lifts everything and feels fresh.

How to choose a fun makeup look you’ll actually try

Pick one: color OR shape OR texture.
If you pick all three, it can get chaotic fast. If you pick one, it stays cute and intentional.

Match it to your energy level
Low energy: colored lower lash line + blush moment.
Medium energy: two-color shadow + simple wing.
High energy: graphic liner + clown blush + tiny details.

Give yourself permission to redo one step
Creative makeup is literally trial and error. I plan for one “redo” so I don’t feel annoyed when it happens.

Mini troubleshooting (because fun makeup should still feel fun)

My liner keeps getting uneven
Sketch with shadow first, then trace. Also, keep both eyes open when checking symmetry—closed-eye symmetry lies.

My bright shadow looks patchy
Pack first, blend second. And use a clean brush to soften edges instead of over-blending the pigment away.

My blush looks too intense
Tap a little base product over the edges to blur it, or add a soft powder on top to diffuse. It turns “too much” into “soft-focus.”
